President of Patriotic Alliance PA political party in South Africa and the Executive Mayor of Karoo Municipality Gayton McKenzie have blasted the country's ruling party ANC and the government over the approval of spending R22 million on a flag monument.
According to Gayton, people want to have a better life in the country and not a flag.
"People wanna see and experience a better life, not see and experience a flag that lit up, stop this rubbish plan, have some shame."
The news of the flag was announced to the public by the country's Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa.
Some people have reacted to this in different ways, take a look at some of their responses below;
"Come up with a counter plan, comrade mayor. What plan do you put on the table for the people to see and experience a better life?"
"When you put a person like Nathi, and all the rest like him, in positions that they have no concept of the portfolio they’re occupying, cause they’re cadre appointments, you’ll have this, squandering money just to state afterward they did something serving the people."
"This is a way of embezzling the funds for their upcoming elective conference. At least he would have stolen the money in advance and would have made the public aware."
