As the Jacob Zuma Foundation was getting ready for the media briefing to respond to the final report of the Zondo Commission, thousands of Zuma's supporters were in high spirit, hoping that they will hear what Zuma has to say and they were looking forward to seeing him.
However, at the briefing, only the Zuma Foundation accompanied by Zuma's daughter Dudu Zuma-Sambudla were present, with no sign of the former head of state. This left many people disappointed but had to make do with what was before them.
During the media briefing, the Zuma Foundation spokesperson slammed the report, accusing it of being based on gossip and hearsay, demanding evidence that Zuma was indeed corrupt as the report states.
According to Manyi, Zuma and his foundation will be challenging Chief Justice Raymond Zondo's appointment, accusing him of being friends with President Cyril Ramaphosa, and claiming that his appointment as Chief Justice was unlawful. In essence, the Foundation will be heading to the Judicial Services Commission to get it to investigate Zondo.
The public has mixed views regarding this. Some believe that Zuma is avoiding being held accountable and up to his delaying tactics again, that he will be in and out of the courts making countless appeals to avoid standing trial.
On the other hand, some believe that it is high time that the independence of the judiciary is tested to determine if it is without fear and favour. Although there are concerns that Zondo has been aware that Zuma might drag him to court and claim that he is biased, they believe that the case will not be about Zondo but the whole justice system, whether or not it has been captured.
If Zuma was truly innocent of any wrongdoing, he would have taken the stand at the Commission to give his version of events. It seems that the former President has no intention of dealing with the accusations against him. Instead, he continues to accuse people of being biased against him, nothing about proving his innocence.
