Mmusi Aloysias Maimane is a South African politician and businessman. He is the former Leader of South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance political party from 10 May 2015 to 23 October 2019, and the former Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from 29 May 2014 to 24 October 2019. Mmusi Maimane has recently exposed the ANC government's plan to pay R22 million for a flag that cost R70,000.
For the past few days, the minister of sports, arts and culture, Nathi Mthethwa, has been defending the controversial multi-million rand flag project. The government wants to erect a flag at Freedom Park in Pretoria to the tune of R22-million. Nathi Mthethwa attempted to persuade South Africans that the project was part of his department's mandate to promote social cohesion.
The chief justice, Mogoeng Mogoeng, stated that "This R22 million flag is actually disrespectful to South Africans!" It has an undertone that says, "you guys are stupid and we’ll continue looting in front of you and you won’t do anything about it!" It’s just the ANC showing it will never ever care.
Below are some of the comments that were made by concerned South African citizens.
We have so many bigger problems in this country that need funding. We have loadshedding, roads are a mess, the economy is on the brink of almost complete collapse. Do we really need this amazing flag now? Is it as urgent and important as they make it out to be? Or just a ploy to loot? We have been persevering the ruling party's corruption for a long period of time, and it seems as if they will continue coming up with different ways to loot money instead of creating job opportunities that may benefit the youth.
Mmusi Maimane should be the next Joburg mayor. He would do an incredible job there. He has too much time on his hands and is always complaining on Twitter. This is an excellent opportunity for him to do what is right= you think that the R22 million worth of flags was just a ploy by the ANC government officials to loot money?
