"There's Infighting In The ANC" - Mabuza Opens A Can Of Worms

The warring of factions in the ANC has invariably been the subject of debate in recent years, although factions became more conspicuous at the Polokwane conference in 2007, when former President Jacob Zuma went head-to-head with then incumbent Thabo Mbeki who sought a third term, the Mangaung conference in 2012 confirmed their existence.

You could say, after the Mangaung conference the party tried its utmost best forge some unity of sort, what transpired at Nasrec has not being undone to this day. The two factions that went pound for pound were consolidated beyond the conference.

There is a CR17 faction which is aligned with President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) which was formed at the behest of Zuma but currently propagated by suspended Secretary-General Ace Magashule.

Even though some ANC members have refused to entertain the notion which seeks to suggest that the party was in a war with itself, deputy president David Mabuza, dropped a mini bombshell when by telling reporters that, indeed it is true that there are irreconcilable ideological differences in the ANC currently, but he indicated that is mainly because the party is chucking out rogue elements as it embarks on its renewal process.

"There is infighting in the ANC, we have to lead the party with integrity and serve the people. Please respect the people. We will do better and fix a lot of things," Mabuza told said while on the campaign trail in Soshanguve on Thursday.

Apart from speaking on the issue of factionalism which bedeviling the party, he expressed his gratitude to the people of Soshanguve who came out in their numbers, saying part of the reason the ANC lost the Metros in 2016 was mainly due to the fact that plenty of its supporters stayed away as they felt abandoned and alienated.

"In 2016 people stayed away and never went to vote. Now you are all saying we going out to vote for the party," he added.
