The DA has kept in touch with National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to demand a dire examination and move to be initiated against Scopa administrator Mkhuleko Hlengwa.

Hlengwa experienced harsh criticism this week after he got into a warm showdown with Eskom Board part Busisiwe Mavuso during a gathering of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).

Hlengwa criticized Mavuso for inferring that the ANC was answerable for Eskom's hardships, referring to her activities as "drain legislative issues" and requesting her to leave.

DA boss whip Natasha Mazzone portrayed Hlengwa's activities as unforgivable.

Mazzone said:

"Members of various boards of directors are summoned to Scopa to be held accountable by Parliament, and they have the right to speak freely and honestly, and they are required to tell the truth. It has never happened that a board member who was telling the truth or speaking frankly was asked to quit because the Scopa chairperson did not like what he was hearing. Hlengwa treated Mavuso with total disrespect and disdain after she presented an honest account of her findings and experiences with Eskom. If the ANC is not a problem at Eskom, then who is."

Mazzone has requested a full expression of remorse be shipped off Mavuso for being tossed out of a gathering where she was approached to offer a legitimate viewpoint.

She additionally said Hlengwa should be accounted for by the Powers and Privileges Committee for a full examination concerning his way of behaving.

While that examination proceeds, Mazzone said, Hlengwa ought to be suspended as Scopa director until his hearing is finished.

"All sides of the story ought to be heard in Scopa meetings, and individuals ought to be permitted to talk unafraid, favor. Mavuso, similar to each and every other individual, who requested to talk, ought to be managed the cost of some security and not reserve their privilege to talk stomped on. Given his complete prejudice toward the ANC in his direct, apparently, Hlengwa takes his guidelines on Eskom matters from the ANC," she said.
