According to experts and based on results tabulated by the end of Tuesday evening, the ANC was already hurting from a dismal showing in the 2016 local government election, but it appears to be even worse this time around. What has exacerbated the ANC's woes is the emergence of newcomer ActionSA, as well as the DA's resilience in the face of a contentious election campaign. The EFF, like the Freedom Front Plus, has grown in important areas.
Many political analysts believe that this is the beginning of the end for ANC. The reason behind this is because they have lost massive followership compared to their "bad" run in 2016. Also, this new kid on the block, the ActionSA, had a particularly strong showing in Gauteng and was providing a nuisance for more established parties, in Johannesburg in particular.
