MMC for Strategic Management and Development and female councillor from Amathole Municipality has opened a case of assault after violent altercation at work on Monday. Councillor Nanziwe Rulashe was assaulted and dragged, kicking and screaming from her office by armed security men.
Videos of the attack have been making rounds on social media with many labelling it as gender- based violence incident. Rulashe has stated that the incident took place after a heated strategic planning meeting at their offices, this is after the strategic planning was not done through her and when she inquired about it and raised the misunderstanding she was ordered to be removed from the offices. Five people have since been arrested including two security personnel.
ANC Amathole regional secretary Teris Ntutu has condemned the incident saying that the security personnel could have handled the matter much differently. The ANC has called on the MEC of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the province to urgently investigate this despicable act.
