Passes Away: Former Johannesburg Mayor has succumbed to his injuries following a serious crash last week.
His death was announced by family spokesperson Mike Maile outside the hospital on Wednesday evening.
His family and the African National Congress (ANC) previously said he was in a serious but stable condition. He was involved in the accident last Monday night when he was travelling from Alexandra to his home in Mondeor, south of Joburg. Details surrounding the cause of the crash are still unclear at this stage.
Family spokesperson Mike Maile said Moerane died on Wednesday afternoon.“We confirm we lost our beloved Mpho this afternoon. His passing has saddened us,” Maile said.
His family asks everyone to be given space to mourn and to prepare for his befitting burial.
Memorial and funeral details are yet to be discussed.
