OPINION - Numerous Zimbabweans living in South Africa are in limbo

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Shava, said the government of Zimbabwe is ready to welcome back its citizens who have lived in South Africa under the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP). Minister Shava didn't say what he will do with hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans who are employed and live in SA if they are returned back to Zimbabwe. This is tough for our people.

Numerous Zimbabweans living in South Africa are in limbo, after the South African government announced that it would not be extending the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP), which ended on December 31, 2021. Its expiry is naturally causing much anxiety to the holders of this permit. Yes Zimbabwean citizens should be welcomed back into their country but we as a country need to have a strategy and plans to help them integrate including employment and housing!

In addition I  heard Minister Lindiwe Zulu saying Us as ANC we have strong Sister friendship with ZANU Pf and we have maintained our relations for years then asked myself what's going on here PPL are suffering running to SA causing another instability in SA then they are aware of that and the cause of the problem but still mention good friendship. As long Zim situation still like that PPL will continue entering SA worst part poor PPL suffer then those with good friendship live comfortable life .ZEP issue won't solve the problem bcos these ppl are still same PPL who were collected by Zuma administration from the bushes without any piece of document trying to put them in a kraal so today the new herder decided to let them out of the kraal ,where will they go grazing, they will go back to same bushes where they were collected before.
