"NEC Decision Is Final" - Duarte Throws ACE Under The Bus

The day of Armaggedon is seemingly in sight for ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule, this after his "presumed" ally, Deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte delivered the last nail into his political coffin.

Magashule has been kicking and screaming lately in an attempt to save his free falling political career, after the ANC National Executive Committee instructed him to step aside within 30 days.

He had to be side-stepped by the National Working Committee (NWC) after a letter which he sent to provincial secretaries contained a "smuggled" new clause contrary to the original "step aside" resolution.

Meanwhile, Duarte who was doing an interview with SABC News Senior Political journalist Samkele Maseko, came out guns blazing stating unequivocally, that the decisions which were adopted by the NEC are final and will take effect.

"Far as I am concerned, if you have been charged criminally the NEC has decided that you have 30 days in which to decide whether you are going to step aside or not, after which the ANC's constitution will kick in," Duarte said.

Duarte also called out Magashule to distance himself from people who are engaging in ill-disciplined conduct by pretending to be his supporters when their actual plan is to bring the party down.

"I am calling out the ANC secretary general and I am asking him to respect the ANC and to call on his supporters to stop this," she said.

There was sense that Duarte was alligned with the Magashule faction, but it seems she taken cognizance of the fact that Magashule's ship is heading into the political Bermuda Triangle and has swung over to the dominant faction of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Despite that inference, Duarte told Maseko that she doesn't belong to any faction in the ruling party, as there was an instance two years ago where ANC Free State members alligned to Magashule said she was unreliable.

"Somebody said in the Free State about 2 years ago in a matter that I was dealing, he said ‘this woman is unreliable’ and I agreed, I am. You cannot rely on me to be part of a faction that you might lead," Duarte added.
