This retiree has fulfilled a lifetime goal of becoming a mother. Jivunben Rabari, a 70-year-old woman from Gujarat, India, stated that she just gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Lalo, who was created through IVF.
Jivunben and her spouse Maldhari (55) first child. The couple has been married for 45 years and has given up hope of ever having children. Despite the fact that she lacks identification to prove her age, the new mother claims to be 70 years old, making her one of the world's oldest first-time moms.
Despite being told about the dangers, the couple's doctor, Naresh Bhanushali, says the couple was keen about having a kid through IVF. "They approached me a year ago. We were first hesitant to do so due to the woman's advanced age. "But they were eager to have a kid, so we decided to go forward," Dr. Bhanushali explains.
“This is the rarest of rare cases. Seeing a mother give birth without complications is a miracle.”
Dr. Bhanushali says they had to make sure her uterus was big enough to carry a baby before starting IVF.
"Before we started the IVF process, we had to do a surgical surgery on the mother We began by providing oral medications to help her menstrual cycle become more regular".
Jivunben is not the first elderly woman from India to give birth. In 2019, then 74-year-old Mangayamma Yaramati from southern Andhra Pradesh gave birth to healthy twin girls after undergoing IVF treatment using a donor's eggs and her husband, Raja Rao’s (80) sperm.
Leading IVF doctor Kamini Patel advised that IVF is not suitable for women older than 52. Although there's no specific age limit for IVF in South Africa, the Cape Fertility Clinic recommends that a person has to be younger than 45 years old unless they are using donor eggs. The age limit for a person using donor eggs is 50.
