The Recorded Live Births report for the prior year is released by Stats SA each year. The 2016 list of the top baby names in South Africa was published yesterday.
The Dlaminis once again had the most births last year, while Junior and Precious once more claimed the top spots for boys and girls, respectively.
With names like Kungawo in the Eastern Cape and Mia in the Western Cape, for example, that didn't make it to the national list but were the most popular in their respective provinces, we also have a breakdown of the top boys', girls', and surnames by province.

With a minor internal shuffling, the leading 8 boys' names remain largely unaltered, but Junior outpaces the rest by a wide margin: 10 869 infant boys were given the name Junior, compared to 6 130 young boys who received the name Blessing. Amogelang and Lubanzi are brand-new entries in this year's top 10.
