Parents are constantly encouraged to be cautious about who they put their children in the company. Parents frequently entrust the safety of their children to people they have known for a long time or relatives, but history has shown that even those people cannot be trusted. After viciously raping a little niece, an uncle was sentenced to life in prison.
The Nquthu Regional Court sentenced a 35-year-old uncle to life in prison for rape on May 16, 2022. This was after the court heard how he savagely raped his eleven-year-old niece before he was sentenced.
An eleven-year-old girl was at her uncle's house in Mondlo on 9 September 2018, when he forced her to watch a pornographic film and raped her.
The uncle then paid her R8-00 for silence and told her she would be killed if she told anyone however the victim was bold enough to tell her elders about the situation.
The investigation was taken over by Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences after a rape case was lodged at Mondlo SAPS.
The offender was taken under arrest and prosecuted in court after a thorough investigation. He was finally sentenced in court after multiple court appearances. He was also found unsuitable to possess a firearm, and his name was added to the list of sexual offenders.
