President Cyril Ramaphosa is today celebrating the occasion marking his 69th birthday, and with ANC members along with the broader South African society wishing him well in his quest to lead the country well, one of the eminent congratulatory messages he received, was from his deputy president, David Mabuza, and boy did it carry plenty of political currency.

Ramaphosa and Mabuza's allyship was bourne out of the dismantling of the notoriously androcentric grouping of embattled Secretary-General Ace Magashule, Supra Mahumapelo and Mabuza himself - the so-called Premier League - whose existence was to ensure the perpetual cling on power of former President Jacob Zuma.
However, an eleventh hour political maneuvering by Ramaphosa at the Nasrec elective conference in 2017 ended its dominance.
It is from that background that Mabuza's tweet, which quite interestingly generated extreme reactions from his followers, again demonstrated the likelihood of him showing his unwavering support for Ramaphosa at the 2022 ANC conference.
Simply put, Mabuza said, "Wishing President Cyril Ramaphosa a happy birthday. May you be granted strength and wisdom to continue leading this nation."
Although his message seems straightforward and devoid of political insinuation, but looking closely at it, an inference can be made that by referring to Ramaphosa requiring more strength and wisdom to lead the nation.
He is reiterating his complete belief that the incumbent is the right man to lead the country out of the morass that was state capture, which effectively left the country in a state of economic quagmire and political phantasmagoria.
Similarly, Mabuza's statement was an opportunity to launch an attack on critics and naysayers - in particular the RET brigade - whose concerted effort to have Ramaphosa removed gained momentum over the last few weeks.
Regarding the conference itself, there is a sense in Mabuza will again throw his hat into the contest for re-election, he was quoted ipsissima verba during the campaign for Municipal Polls, suggesting the possibility of him accepting a nomination if it arrived.
