Are You Vaccinated? This Bank Is Giving Away R 3 Million. Here Is What To Do

Entries for a First National Bank prize draw will close one minute before midnight on October 31. The bank is expected to call the first of three customers who will earn a minimum of R3 million and as much as R6 million in the coming days.

To be eligible, you must have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccination by the deadline, and then notify FNB using its mobile app. FNB's Life division CEO Lee Bromfield said in a statement announcing the competition on Thursday that the bank wants to "urge our clients to consider being vaccinated not only for their own health benefits but for the welfare of the economy and society at large."

The competition will be held again in November and December, with the last entries for the final draw closing right before the year's end. Customers must have a valid South African ID and be in good standing with the bank, with no outstanding debts or overdrawn accounts.

They must also register, via the FNB app, on the bank's "nav>> Welness" section. That requires telling the bank their height and weight, and indicating if they are interested in activities such as hiking or swimming, in order to create a wellness profile. They can then access a "vaccine status" option.

"I confirm that I have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine," says the declaration.

There are no requirements for vaccine specifics or verification. Only the winner will be asked to provide proof, according to the competition rules and conditions.

The three winners of the monthly draw will each earn R3 million in cash. If they are 60 or older, they will receive an additional R1 million. "We will pay out an additional amount of up to R2 million" if they have a life policy with FNB Life.

This week, government departments and partners were urged to emphasize that vaccination against Covid-19 is optional, however private firms have the authority to require proof of immunization from employees or visitors.

Employees at Discovery, Sanlam, and Curro have all stated that they will be required to be vaccinated. For individuals who have been vaccinated, Game and Discovery have offered incentives of a special discount and extra loyalty-scheme points, respectively.
