Spiritual Warfare and how it affects our prayers.

As I sat there listening to the pastor preaching about sin and different kinds of them and how they are manifested, I was taken away by my imagination and wondered how to deal with people in my quest or mission of trying to live a holy life.

Luckily enough for me, the pastor touched on the topic and quoted Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

I was so blessed to find myself in church on that particular Sunday and he further went on to elaborate that “we do not hate people, we do not fight people we fight and hate the sin in them. You meet a gay person you don’t hate on him but you despise the sin that is living in him after all he is still made in the image of God.

But what are Spiritual warfares? Are there battles being fought right now? What are principalities and rulers of darkness that Paul is warning the Church of Ephesus about? Many people to this day do not believe that Angels and demons exist. Those who do seemingly do not know what demons are and what angels are or many simple just take them for granted and underestimate the power in them.

There is a battle that gets fought every day in the spiritual realm that we do not see with our fleshly eyes, but we do get involved or we have a role we play in it. Every time a Christian prays we get involved in that war one way or another.

Daniel 10:12-13 Then he said to me, “do not fear Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words we’re heard; and I have come because of your words. But the Prince of the Kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.

Daniel had prayed and his prayer was heard for twenty one days he waited for his answer and when the angel arrived, he gave him the news of what appears to be a battle that was fought in an attempt to deliver a message to him Daniel. It seems to us these princes of Persia ( the devil) had tried to hinder angels from delivering the message to Daniel until He was left alone and Michael came to his assistance.

Probably this is some of the reasons why our prayer answers are delayed. But one thing we know is that we do not fight flesh and blood but lords of darkness. Battles are fought and are won. The angel says to Daniel I was left alone till Michael came, this might be a signal that he wasn’t alone when he left but during the battle maybe some soldiers might have fled or died.

We can also be assured that we are never alone, God has angels assigned to guide and protect us when we fight in this spiritual war.
