Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the provincial commissioner of North West, praised a team made up of members of the Randfontein Flying Squad, Lomanyaneng, Sannieshof, and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Detectives for their tireless efforts in securing the capture and arrest of two suspects in connection with the horrifying murder of a couple whose bodies were discovered in the village of Dithakong East this week.
The suspects, two men 25 and 26 years old, were detained on June 23, 2022, in Mahikeng's Setlopo and Randfontein, respectively. In addition, the boyfriend's stolen Toyota Quantum minibus was discovered in Lenasia, Gauteng Province, with decreased woman's missing body parts.
On Sunday, June 19, and Tuesday, June 21, 2022, respectively, the lifeless remains of Macdonald Stevens (48) and his partner Baitibadi Maduna (42) were discovered in the bushes in Dithakong East village. Investigation revealed that the girlfriend's body was discovered with some of her body parts removed.
On Sunday, June 19, 2022, the couple was reported missing to the police. According to reports, the couple was last seen together on June 16, 2022, at the boyfriend's home in Setlopo village's Mapetla Section.
On Monday, June 27, 2022, the suspects are scheduled to appear in Molopo Magistrate's Court in Mmabatho on charges of two crimes of kidnapping, two counts of murder, and one count of carjacking.
The team's dedication was praised by the provincial commissioner, who also promised to investigate the situation thoroughly and ensure that anyone found to be responsible for it would be held fully accountable.
