Zuma's Ally Mzwandile Masina Will He Win Again As Ekurhuleni Mayor?

Economic Freedom Fighter's stance that they will not vote with the ANC after coalition talks between the two parties collapsed might have cost ANC on a larger scale.

Several ANC supporters are waiting eagerly to see if their favourite, Mzwandile Masina who is also a staunch supporter of former president, Jacob Zuma will win again as the mayor of Ekurhuleni City.

Some critics argue that with how things are turning out and the voting patterns, Mzwandile Masina's fate is hanging swiftly like a pendulum if the EFF don't come to his rescue.

In numerous municipalities where ANC mayoral candidates lost, they needed a certain number of votes that could have come easily had they been backed by the red berets.

ANC for instance in the Nelson Mandela Bay, although they managed to win that municipality by one vote, critics argue this is dangerous as the mayor might not finish her term due to voting patterns in the coalition government.

Democratic Alliance's Raymond Dhlamini was elected as speaker in Ekurhuleni City with 116 votes. ANC candidate Dorah Mlambo lost with 104 votes. This shows that if ANC had agreed to be in coalition with the EFF, they could have managed to win position of the speaker which went to DA's Raymond Dhlamini.

Meanwhile, Olebeng Mogorosi, an EFF councilor at Mamusa Local municipality in the North West province has been duly elected as the Speaker. This comes after some ANC councilors voted with the EFF. ANC has 9 seats, EFF 4 while DA and FF+ has 1 seat each. The council was however adjourned following some disagreements.

When the Mamusa Local municipality council meeting which was disrupted resumed, only EFF councilors were present. The absence of 9 ANC councilors is set to affect the quorum.

It is not clear what exactly happened in the Mamusa local municipality which saw EFF Councillor winning as speaker.

This municipality is said to be one of the dysfunctional and torn apart by corruption as it was under the administration of ANC over the years.

The coalition between IFP-ANC in Kwa-Zulu Natal province is also alleged to have effectively collapsed. This comes at a time ANC need the numbers after they nominated Mxolisi Kaunda to run as mayor.

The voting for mayor in Ekurhuleni is in progress.
