The report from Newzroom Afrika highlighted that the residents have been illegally connected for more than ten years as they do not have any choice.
Thousands of households are reported to be illegally connected to electricity from the City of Tshwane. One of the residents revealed that they had been illegally connected as a result of desperation.
There have been promises of electrification to the residents but nothing has been delivered, hence the decision to illegally get the electricity. The residents are even willing to make the monthly payments, but the municipality has done nothing.Despite the alleged march with the residents made to the Eskom offices in 2018, they have not done anything.
A report was also issued of residents from Garankuwa who took it into their hands to illegally connect themselves to a mini substation despite the risk.

Dangerous electricity connections in Garankuwa
The municipalities have failed the residents across South Africa and those failures are getting exposed. If it were not for the upcoming national government elections, the failures would not have come into the picture.
The illegal electricity connections are desperate measures but risky as well. Some deaths have been recorded as a result of illegal electrification.
These dangerous electricity connections have led to losses in potential revenue for the power company. The relevant authorities need to step up and provide the people with the relevant services, which is electricity in this case.
