We May Be in The Same Storm But Different Boats

We may be in the same storm (COVID-19 pandemic) but we are not in the same boat. The way we respond to this storm varies because of our unique resources (emotional, financial, social, biological). Some people's boats are bound to stabilize fast while for others it may take a while. If you're among those who are struggling to adapt to the new normal, I am here to remind you that you are not alone.

I believe that you are doing the best that you can given the situation since you were never taught how to survive a pandemic. If you ever feel like giving up on life, talk to someone you trust. If you do not have any trustworthy contact, seek professional help. Organizations such as South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) offer free mental health support. Alternately, you can visit your nearest clinic and request psychological services (you might have to be waitlisted as clinical psychologists often have long waiting lists).

Don't beat yourself up for not being okay. Be comforted knowing that there are people out there who have been professionally trained to assist you and they are more than ready to assist. Don't be shy to take that leap of faith and seek professional health.
