SANDF Strictly Warn Afri-Forum Against Engaging in Unconstitutional Border Surveillance.

The South African National Defence Force are not happy with the recent movement by the members of Afriforum to engage in border surveillance patrol in a bid to wage war against smugglers of illicit goods and illegal immigrants.

In a recent development, the South African National Defence Force have reiterated that Afriforum does not have the capacity and prerequisite training to engage in such dangerous duty.

In an official statement duly signed by Mr Siphiwe Dlamini and released to the public on 28 June 2022 and it reads:

"The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) would like to reiterate what the department of Home Affairs said, that it would be illegal for any civil organizations or Non Governmental Organizations including business to conduct patrols at any border of the Republic of South Africa. This follows a video that has been circulating on social media and other news platforms that alleges members of Afriforum had taken the responsibility of for border patrols.

It must be stated that the constitution of the Republic mandate the SANDF to protect and secure the territorial integrities of the Republic and will do so by making sure that the country's land, air and sea borders are protected and secured. It is the responsibility of the SANDF to maintain all borderline integrity of the country and not any other non state group .

Therefore the responsibility of borderline patrols belong to the SANDF which is a statutory law enforced agency, and that this responsible cannot be ceded to business, NGO's or organizations.

The SANDF wants to assure all South Africans, in particular those living in along the border that it will continue to secure the borderline and will work with those community residents namely; farmers, traditional leaders, business men and communication members in general to ensure there is a coordinated effort to curb cross border crime. However it will shed its responsibility given by the constitution to protect and secure the integrity of the Republic to anybody or organizations" the letter says.
