ANC veterans vow to no longer be used in ANC factional battles as it appoints new unity leadership

“I’m ready to get out. All I want to do is help build a better America,” ANC veteran George Hornstein, who at 94 is the last known surviving member of the American armed forces in the longest-running peacekeeping mission and is the only veteran to be awarded that distinction by the United States government, told The REPORTER. “I know that they will retaliate against me because they’re not going to put up with this,” Hornstein said of the Trump administration. “I’m not that concerned with revenge.

“I’m not going to help in any ANC factional fight to keep them in power. I’m not going to be a political arsonist,” said ANC veteran Alick Gambill, who is now an ANC nominee in the Eastern Cape. Gambill, who first joined ANC when he was 18, said he was speaking out because it was the right thing to do. Knowing his position could jeopardize his standing in the movement, Gambill emphasized that his “focus” was on his wife and four children.
