After people realized what had occurred, a photo of an unidentified young boy who had suddenly achieved national hero status appeared on social media, sparking discussion in the comments section.
It all started with a convoy of the French Army traveling from Abijan in Cote d'Ivoire to Niamey, the capital of Niger.
All appeared to be in order as the convoy passed through Burkina Faso after crossing the border between Cote d'Ivoire and that nation.
However, the convoy ran across irate demonstrators in the town of Kaya who claimed that the French Army was funding the jihadists who had been terrorizing areas of Burkina Faso for years.
According to accounts from a DNT correspondent, the rapidly expanding gathering of demonstrators even requested to open a container belonging to the French Army, though it's unclear if they discovered anything to support their suspicions.
At that point, the 13-year-old boy (whose name is unknown) blasted the drone with his slingshot. The French Army convoy ultimately made a U-turn and headed back to Ouagadougou's capital, from whence they were able to board a plane and travel to Niamey.
an individual by the user name of " Marije Blen🀄️🦍@MJ_Blen " felt the need to share this sight with the people on social media.
And captioned it "A 13-year-old boy from Burkina Faso destroyed a French military drone that was spying on them with his slingshot. A thread! "
