USA soldiers spotted in Cape Town, here is what they are doing.

Over the weekend residents of Cape Town were treated with a rare sight of US naval soldiers who were off duty and enjoying the sight of the beautiful city.

However, some were begging to question why the US navy was in South Africa? Well the answer is simple "Naval Exercise"

According to the US embassy in SA, the deployment started on the 27th of September 2021 with the mission of strengthening partnerships in defense and maritime protection as well as anti-drug smuggling operations.

In a statement released by the embassy, it states that :

"For over seventy years, U.S. Sixth Fleet forces have forged strategic relationships with our allies and partners and solidified a foundation of shared vision, values, and experiences aimed at preserving security and stability"

The ship USS Hershel “Woody” Williams is specifically assigned for this task in South Africa and may be used across a broad range of military operations. Acting as a mobile sea base, they are part of the critical access infrastructure that supports the deployment of forces and supplies to support missions assigned.
