When Africa was divided amongst the Europeans, Namibia was given to Germany. It became a German colony in 1884 under Otto von Bismarck. It was called South West Africa. The Germans started a war in Europe in 1914 and the war lasted for 4 years and they were defeated by united European forces. After the defeat of the Germans by the European forces, in the 1st World War, Germany lost its colony of Namibia to the League of Nations which was a precursor of United Nations after Second World War.
General Louis Botha
During World War I, South African troops under General Louis Botha occupied Namibia and deposed the German colonial administration. When the war ended and the Treaty of Versailles resulted in Namibia remaining a possession of South Africa
Sam Nunjoma
Namibia got independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990 under Sam Nunjoma, although Walvis Bay and the Penguin Islands remained under South African control and when ANC took over in 1994, they stopped it. Till this day, Afrikaans is one of the official languages in Namibia. Namibia got a large population of Afrikaner mense.
