Emotions are the most present and sometimes painful force in our lives. The first step to gaining control of your emotions is to recognize when they’re out of control. Ask yourself what this feels like physically and mentally, then work to identify it in the moment. Catching your emotions when they start to spiral requires mindfulness and conscious, rational thought. Just the recognition alone will start to ground you in the present moment.


1 Stop saying you are shy

There's no need to advertise your shyness. Those who are close to you already know, and others may never even have an opportunity to notice. It's not as visible as you probably think Don't label yourself as shy--or as anything.


2 Stop imagining wrong things


Shy people sometimes feel disapproval or rejection even when it isn't there. Your thoughts are preventing you from starting a conversation because you assume that people might not reply you. People probably like you much more than you give yourself credit for.


3 Make eye contact and smile


If you don’t talk much, people might think it’s because you don’t like them. As a result, they might avoid interacting with you. Do small things to show that you are friendly people will be more motivated to interact with you.
