Natural disaster

Here's how to prepare for stage 2 loadshedding this weekend. Opinion.

Eskom has confirmed that this weekend we will be experiencing stage two loadshedding, however unlike other loadshedding periods, we will only be experiencing loadshedding from 17:00 to 22:00 each evening. Below I will give you tips on how to prepare for these periods of loadshedding.

Lighting your home :

You will of course need to light your home during these periods, especially since the power is going off in the evening when the sun goes down. There are a number of ways you can do this.

Candles are the simplest and lost widely available method, however they are fire hazards. If you do use candles to light your home make sure they are not near anything flammable and never leave them unattended.

You can also get rechargeable lights that can be used over and over again and do not pose any dangers.

Preparing food :

While you could always use a gas stove during these times, if you do not own one already, buying one may seem unfeasible. Luckily you can burn a fire in a small fire place or braai stand to prepare food. As with candles, remember to never start fires near anything flammable and never leave fires unattended.

Entertainment :

Loadshedding time should not be wasted. Instead you can use it for valuable activities. Spend time with your family away from technology by playing board games, party games or even telling stories.

If you do not feel like having family time or are alone, than get a nice book or listen to music or watch a movie on your phone. If all else fails than just catch up on some of your work.

What do you think of these tips and do you have any of your own to share. Tell us in the comments section and follow for more lifestyle news as it happens.
