Blinds v/s Curtains. What Is The Verdict?

Interior decor and fashion has changed over the years. There was a time when "more" meant beauty... but now people are starting to understand that less is more. The concept of minimalism has drastically taken over everything else.

What is minimalism with regards to decor?

Well, if you're keeping up with the trends, you might have noticed that most influencers and highly affluent people live in super simplistic but highly elegant homes. Adorned in neutral shades and simple lines.

A minimalist-designed space incorporates an open floor plan, lots of light, and simple line furnishings that are well-built and comfortable. All these create a soothing and inviting space that has a timeless aesthetic.

If you're looking to revamp and upgrade your space, it's good that you've come here... I will be taking you through the steps to creating the space of your dreams, for less.

But without any further ado, let's discuss window setups, because these reflect on the exterior of your home as Well, and you obviously want to make it look as lovely as possible.

Why windows?

Window treatments let you control light, privacy, and indoor temperature while complementing your décor. That's why!

The big question..... Blinds or drapes?

Before we dwell into that, I would love to clarify that there is a difference between drapes and curtain, and I feel the need to add drapes as a contender.

What are Blinds?

Blinds are a solid type of window coverings, whic is made up of slats or vanes that tumble down the blind as it is lowered or can be pulled across a window to stack lengthwise, to the side. These louvers or slats are individually formed together to create the complete blind and are usually controlled by a manual pull cord.

1. There is a wide variety to suit your style.

There is a variety of blinds to choose from out There, each giving bringing a different touch to any space in your house. They can also be a reflection if your personality.

2. Blinds are available in a wide variety of materials.

These materials can be used to complement other elements of your decor. I.e if you want to complement your wooden flooring, you can incorporate wooden blinds, etc.

3. May help cut down electricity costs.

The sunlight which passes through glass windows are magnified many times over and this can results in a room getting warmer than usual. The warmth it brings might give you an advantage during those cold months, but once the warmer months come around, these windows have to get blocked out, and blinds are excellent for that purpose. Which means you won't need to be spending as much on electricity because of air conditioning.

4. Strengthens privacy

Because blinds can be completely closed, they can make it more difficult for burglars to peek through windows. For maximum privacy, you may want to consider top-down blinds that can be opened and closed both at the top, near the top of the window frame, and at the bottom, near the windowsill. This type of blind is quite and ideal option because it closes off completely giving a 100% privacy while also allowing light to enter.

5. Super low-maintenance, and long lasting

Having to bring down the curtains for washing is a long story, with blinds on the other hand they’re extremely easy to keep clean. You’ll likely find that an occasional dusting or a wipe with a damp cloth is sufficient to keep them looking like new for many years. Curtains, on the other hand, require washing or dry cleaning, as well as rehanging.

6. They are allergy friendly.

Well, seems unbelievable right? Because blinds are so easy to clean, this minimizes the accumulation of dust and debris for people who suffer allergies and problems with their sinuses.

7. Gives you full control over lighting

After incorporating window blinds, you feel the difference in the air. Window blinds minimize the light which enters the room. Especially in the summer season, it becomes imperative to reduce room lighting. And in the winter you can allow for more light to control. But regardless, the amount of light is totally up to you.

8. Allows for more light distribution

As opposed to curtains, blinds allow for light to be spread evenly across a room.

9. A great element for Instagram snaps.

If you know, you know😂😂

What are curtains?

Well, these.... The definition of a curtain is any sort of covering, especially a piece of cloth that covers a window or opening. The keyword here is "cloth". It is a cloth window treatment.

1. Has more variety as compared to the blinds

With the huge range of fabrics available today as well as many choices of tracks and poles, the options of style and design and colour schemes are endless.

2. The block out sound better than blinds

There is little doubt that multiple layers of curtaining can block out light and sound up to 12 decibels. Blinds, however, do not offer the same block out benefits of sound

3. Just like the blinds, curtains can assist with heat (temperature control)

4. Unfortunately there is no number 4.... Ireally tried looking up and even thinking of more advantages of curtains as opposed to Blinds, and I couldn't think of any.

I think the verdict has been passed, and I rule in favour of Blinds! They are very modern, elegant, simplistic, easy to maintain and long lasting. Why not?
