The family of Solomon Mahlangu have opened an inquest into the death of their relative.
The family of Solomon Mahlangu want to know if he died by being hanged or died at the hands of the apartheid regime. The actual statement said that he died by hanging but his family do not believe that and wants to know the truth. The Umkhonto WeSizwe operative was making his 43rd anniversary on Wednesday and the family decided to open an inquest to finally get closure on how he died. The family was accompanied by Political parties to open the case at Mamelodi West Police Station in Pretoria. The family have reservations over the death of the struggle icon and opening an inquiry will be the best way of giving them peace of mind.
Nonceba Mhlauli revealed that the family decided to open the inquest and all they did was accompany them to do so. Mhlauli further said this will help the ANC youth the history to be captured right so they can make good references. The Anc remembered the youth as a fearless and disciplined young man. Mabe commented and said that the anniversary of Mahlangu's execution served as a reminder that as a country we need to take a minute of silence and reflect and remember the role that the young people played before he was hanged by the security police. He further urged the youngsters to learn from people like Mahlangu.
Mabe encouraged the youth to possess the same energy as that Mahlangu. As when people work together they can be able to safeguard the country and stand and proudly say that they managed to develop a country we call home like the way it was done when people fought the apartheid regime. Nowadays people are occupied with looting and getting positions without caring about proper leadership and bravery, instead of uniting they kill each other.
Mabe closed by thanking telling the attendees that they should think of Mahlangu as our political hero who was executed at the gallows while some of them were in self-isolation during the lockdown. We should think of them as people who sacrificed themselves for change in this country. These days we see cowards who glory on hard work done by people like Mahlangu.
