Finally Pietermaritzburg High Court Has Set The Trial Date For Zulu Throne Battle

The highest court in KwaZulu-Natal has decided the start of a trial for the Zulu throne.

This case has been in the Pietermaritzburg high court for almost six months now. The court has decided that 1 December is the right date for all parties to go on trial. The case, which challenges the will of the late longest-serving monarchy in the history of AmaZulu, King Zwelithini. The lawyers who represent the faction of King Misizulu, Musa Ntsibande confirmed that the court has approved the above date. This date will be the start of the trial which might take three days because 1 December is on Wednesday. Both parties are expected to state the side of their stories before the presiding officer.

Isolezwe Newspaper tried to contact the applicant's lawyer Advocate Mondli Thusini but their attempts were futile since his mobile phone was not answered. The case is divided into two parts; the first was opened by KwaKhethomthandayo's Royal Family, Queen Sibongile Dlamini-Zulu, the late King's first wife. In this case, the Queen wants to inherit most of the late King's estate because she says their marriage was in the community of property.

The second was opened by the children of Queen Sibongile from KwaKhethomthandayo palace, her daughters are Ntandoyenkosi Zulu and Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma. The two are refusing that their father wrote a will that left Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu as a regent, they claim that the signature on the will had been forged. This case has been in court roll before the death of the queen and was due to be heard on the Queen's funeral day. They didn't ask from the sun because Queen Mantfombi will contain something that created even more division as it appointed King Misizulu as the next AmaZulu King.

Her will created another faction that favored Prince Simakade as their preferred candidate to ascend the throne. This is something that goes against AmaZulu culture when it comes to the appointment of the King. The father is the one who has the privilege to appoint the King that will succeed him. The faction that is led by Prince Mbonisi and Princess Thembi who are siblings of the late King wants to democratize it by involving the family to vote for their preferred Prince to ascend the throne. It's something foreign to Zulu culture or any other traditional leadership setup.

On the other hand, the delegation tasked by Dr. Nkosazane Dlamini-Zuma to find a solution to the kingship dispute is continuing to meet with both factions. Last week, a task team led by former KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu met with opponents of the King's appointment. Prince Thokozani Zulu confirmed the above information. Their meeting came after the team met with supporters of king Misizulu which includes AmaZulu Prime Minister and the surviving wife of King Bhekizulu KaCyprian. It is expected that this week the team will meet again with supporters of the King's nomination. O
