A cruel and vicious couple has been sentenced to prison for abusing and poisoning a six-year-old boy before killing him.
On Friday, callous Emma Tustin failed to appear in court for her own sentence hearing.
At a tearful court hearing, the boy's distraught mother confessed that the murder had 'destroyed' her life and broken her heart.
Tustin, 32, was given a life sentence with a minimum of 29 years in prison, while Thomas Hughes, 29, was given a 21-year sentence.
Little Arthur Labinjo-Hughes suffered a "un-survivable" brain injury during lockdown in June 2020, prompting the pair to go to trial.
Tustin carried out the fatal assault when she had sole custody of Arthur, jurors heard during the traumatic eight-week trial at Coventry Crown Court.
She was reported to have quickly retrieved her phone and taken an image of the boy as he lay dying in her hallway in Solihull, West Midlands.
Tustin then waited 12 minutes to contact 999, instead dialing Hughes' number first, before lying to doctors and later told police that Arthur "fell and smashed his skull."
Tustin was convicted of murder, while Hughes was convicted of manslaughter.
During the trial, she admitted to two counts of child abuse, including three assaults on the youngster and forcing him to sit or stand in her hallway for up to 14 hours a day as part of a disciplinary program.
