Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the relentless efforts of police to ensure that victims of gender-based violence and femicide get justice continue to bear fruits. A 55-year-old woman who was arrested has received a life sentence for molesting a 21-year-old mentally challenged man at his home in Krugersdorp.
The woman who was hired as a caregiver molested the mentally challenged man when the parents were not home. The eagle-eyed neighbors saw that something was suspicious and had to ask the young man if everything was okay. The young man confessed that he was being molested daily and the matter was reported to the police.
She was found guilty by the Krugersdorp Regional Court and sentenced to life imprisonment for [email protected] and six years for sexual assault. The sentences will run concurrently. Colonel Dimakatso Sello said that some cases that involved adults with a man being the victim are often swept under the rug because of the perceived masculinity in a man.
