Odirile Figland, 27, was also given an 85-year sentence by the North West High Court, which was in session at the Ga-Rankuwa regional court, for a variety of offences, including two counts of illegal firearm possession and one case of attempted murder.

The court rejected Figland's request for permission to appeal.

In an disagreement with some of the customers, Figland shot Zonele Abrahams three times. Three shots were fired, but only one struck Abrahams, who passed on en route to the hospital.

Isaiah Mabena was killed by Figland in the March 2018 incident, which also happened at Winterveld. Mabena had gone outside to investigate a disturbance in his yard after Figland had assaulted a woman, who then ran inside Mabena's home.

After being warned to stop hitting the woman, Figland departed Mabena's yard, but he made a vow to return and reveal his identity.

Later, he returned with a friend who gave him a gun. He then broke down the door after firing rounds at the house's window. He opened fire on Mabena as soon as he entered the home, and Mabena later passed away in the hospital, according to Henry Mamothame, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority.

The prosecutor Takalani Muneri pleaded with the court not to depart from the mandatory life sentence for the murders in his case for a sentencing enhancement.

He made the case that Figland was a lethal assassin who ought to be expelled from society.

According to Muneri, Figland was given a five-year suspended sentence after being found guilty of robbery in January 2014.

Francis Snyman, a judge, sided with the government.
