"I’m no longer a racist", Says Angelo Agrizzi

In an interview with the State Capture Commission, Angelo Agrizzi, a former Bosasa Chief Operations Officer (COO), stated that he has changed and that he is no longer an unapologetically racist individual.

In a virtual hearing held on Thursday afternoon, June 24, 2021, Agrizzi appeared before the commission and was cross-examined by businessman Kevin Wakeford.

When Agrizzi took the witness stand before the State Capture Commission in January 2019, he admitted to being a racist.

"A racist has been expelled from my life. They have assisted me, and they have assisted me in not considering race as a matter of skin tone or pigment. In fact, I've become aware of them and have even collaborated with them, including in Alexandra, which I thoroughly enjoyed. ‘I'm sorry,' I tell advocate Wallis in response to his question. Racism has completely vanished from my consciousness."

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and its Gauteng head, Buang Jones, have helped Agrizzi claim that he has learned his lesson and no longer discriminates against people based on their skin color in June 2021.

Former state employee Kevin Wakeford testified before the State Capture Commission that Angelo Agrizzi was an anti-Semite and a narcissist in a previous testimony.

In 2019, Agrizzi testified before the commission that Wakeford was paid R100 000 per month to influence investigations into Bosasa by the SA Revenue Service (SARS). During the cross-examination of Agrizzi, Wakeford's legal counsel, advocate Reg Willis, inquired as to whether it was possible that the evidence Agrizzi had presented concerning his client was flawed or whether he had made a mistake in his testimony.

Willis also inquired as to whether Agrizzi resented his client or the late Gavin Watson, who served as his boss. Agrizzi replied in the affirmative.

"Because you dislike Mr Wakeford, Mr Agrizzi provided evidence to support this position. Mister Wakeford is someone who you despise. Having a negative opinion of Mr Wakeford was not an option."
