After being linked to all of these cases, Mlotshwa was arrested in 2019. On January 26, 2022, he pleaded guilty to 27 charges of rape and robbery. He was also found ineligible to possess a handgun, and his name was added to the National Sex Offenders Registry. On Thursday, the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court in Graskop handed down a harsh judgment of 13 life sentences with an additional 105 years in jail to a serial rapist.
Sydwell Mlotshwa, 40, is accused of committing the offenses between 2017 and 2018.
"The court heard how Mlotshwa savagely raped, robbed, and attacked women in the Hazyview and Calcutta areas between 2017 and 2018."
"He would primarily target hitchhiking women and offer them a lift and a detour to adjacent bushes." "He'd then rape and assault them while threatening them with a handgun or knife," said Brig Selvy Mohlala, a police spokesperson.
After being linked to all of these cases, Mlotshwa was arrested in 2019. He admitted to rape and robbery on 27 counts.
He was also found unsuitable to possess a firearm, and his name was added to the National Sex Offenders Registry.
