It's disheartening that people are still harassed simply for being themselves. South Africa is a democratic country that welcomes all people. South Africa is home to people of all races, and there should be no discrimination based on race. There is a negative stigma associated with gay and lesbian persons. Learning to live with these people and never abusing them because of who they are is critical. Discrimination is to blame for the deaths of many homosexual and lesbian people. Their families reject them and neglect them. They feel forlorn and worthless if the ones who brought them to this globe discriminate against them. It is critical that we learn how to integrate all members of society. In South Africa, there are laws that control homosexual and lesbian persons. Anyone who disobeys them should face the full force of the law. A bunch of men attacked a poor young gay man for no apparent reason.
'I was assaulted by four homophobic men, and I had to fight for my life.' I don't know their names, but I do know Sakhe Deyi, one of them. It was approximately an hour ago when this happened. They attacked me, and Sakhe kicked me in the face, ripping my lip apart. He wrote on his Twitter account, "Right now, I'm in the hospital." It is clear from the post that these males targeted Ntshanga Yamkela because he is gay. If South African culture continues to refuse to recognize homosexual persons in our community and learn to live with them, it is heartbreaking.
We live in a democratic country where we must respect the differences among individuals. No one chooses to be born the way they are, and some people are still afraid of coming out and leading normal lives. Society is cruel, and it will make you regret your birth or the life you are intended to live. The perpetrators of the Yamkela attack remain on the run and must be apprehended.
