There was bad news regarding some of the assistant teachers in Port Elizabeth as it appeared that they have not been paid since December.

Its highlighted that they used Monday the 15th as a day of picketing outside the Department of Education offices over the unpaid salaries.

Its highlighted that dozens of the assistant teachers were protesting over the non-payment by the government of their monies.

There had been assurance a few days ago from the Department of Basic Education that the payments would be made at the end of the month of January.

However , the protests by the teacher assistants in Port Elizabeth told a different outcome. The 15th of February was supposed to be the day of reopening, but instead it was used as day of demanding getting paid.

The schools reopened on the 15th of February 2021 after the originally set date had to be moved forward by two weeks . It was because of the Covid-19 cases that were high in the month of January. The schools were opening for the very first time in 2021.

However , in 2020 , the Government embarked on the Presidential stimulus which wanted to create employment to more than 300 000 youths in order to help them with relief from the effects of the pandemic.

The Presidential stimulus saw the employment of more than 300 000 youths into the education sector as general and teacher assistants across all the provinces in South Africa.

When the President set the initiative in 2020 , the nation had been hit the hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic and many people had lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic.

However, in response to what took place outside the offices of the Department of Basic Education in Port Elizabeth, the Department is reported to have highlighted that the problem will be addressed during the week.

The he last time the Department of education was asked to give reasons for the delays in payments , they highlighted that it was as a result of some information about the generals that was missing. The had promised to make the payments at the end of the month of January.
