Crime Justice

“Is death penalty an answer to GBV?” South African Twitter ask.

Women in South Africa continue to live in fear due to the unending abuse and killing of women by men. Calls for the reintroduction of death penalty have been made by some groups in the country. Is the death penalty sentence an answer to ending GBV?

”This is just crime labelled for sensation. There’s nothing special about this particular crime, we all live in fear of being the victims of crime. The other day our car was shot at by criminals and we fled to the police station where we couldn’t even be allowed inside” said Rudzani Mulovhedzi.

Sebata Ronel tweeted “As always we SAns are missing the point by categorising murder. Murder of child, man, woman, farmer, police, teacher is murder and should not be tolerated. Rape of child, man or woman is rape & should not be tolerated. Death penalty is answer”

However Aris Danikas holds a view that “Death Penalty is not the answer to South Africa’s violent crime problem.A balanced access to owing land, employment, compulsory medical aid , in conjunction with removing corruption from the public sector including government politicians is the way forward”

what are your thoughts fellas?
