Theft robbery

Woman who allegedly stole millions from her employer in a tight spot

It was only a matter of time before former SBV employee Bathobile Mlangeni was caught.

Mlangeni hit the headlines after allegedly stealing R4 million from her employer.

Her lawyer asked the court to postpone the matter in order to first consult with the client, find the reasons why the state is opposing bail and go through the docket to understand the merits of the case.

Mlangeni was arrested on January 6 in Zola, Soweto, after a long search by police.

Mlangeni, who is from Dlamini in Soweto, allegedly stole R4m from the basement of SBV Secure Solutions’ cash depot at the Mall of Africa.

It’s alleged on July 15 2019, she strolled out of the depot with a trolley containing refuse bags that were stuffed with millions of rand before disappearing with the loot.

She had been working for the company as a security guard at SBV, one of the biggest cash-intransit companies in SA.

Police said Mlangeni allegedly cut open two bulk cash bags with a pair of scissors before transferring the money into a number of refuse bags which she placed in a trolley and walked out of the depot.

At the weekend, her neighbours in Dlamini said they had not seen her since the lavish wedding of her sister held last year, which she attended.
