
A 30-year-old male was charged with two counts of rape, sexual assaults, five acts of child abuse, and assault with the intent to cause serious bodily harm, appeared before the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court. He appeared gor his bail hearing and he was denied bail.
Between 2020 and 2021, a guy from Tshitereke village allegedly preyed on an 11-year-old child and his mother, but the crime was only discovered after the victim alerted his relatives on November 21, 2021.
The defendant is a Department of Education employee who works as an assistant teacher in a lower primary school where he works with little children.
The case was postponed to the 28th of February 2022 for DPP'S decision.
Residents welcomed the decision of the court. "This is a saddening situation, the person who is supposed to be protecting the boy is the one put the young man in this painful and traumatic situation. We already have a uncontrollable problem of gender based violence in the country." said one resident.
