The nation was left shell shocked after news was shared of how a gang of robbers ransacked an Old People's home in Gqeberha. The suspects were not only armed robbers as they also kidnapped and hijacked their victim.
In a media statement, it was stated that members of the South African Police Services who are deployed at Kwazakele are in search of armed robbers allegedly carried out a robbery. The robbery was carried out on the 5th of October 2021 at the institute which is located Booi Street in Zwide after the victim was hijacked.
At about 11:45 yesterday in the morning, one complainant was allegedly hijacked by three armed men while he was on Sompontsha Street. After hijacking him, the robbers took him hostage as they took him to the facility.
Upon their arrival, an office door was broke down by the suspects as they forced their entry. An undisclosed amount of money was taken by the suspects after they had gained entry before they forced the complainant back into his Golf VW Polo vehicle.
They went on to drive off from the scene as they headed towards Zwide and they dropped him at a clinic. The suspects disappeared from the scene and a report was made to the police.
Later on that same day, the VW Polo vehicle was recovered from Sompontsha Street. Investigations are being intensified by the police and cases of hijacking, kidnapping an business robbery have since been opened.
In a media statement, the police were kindly asking for assistance from members of the public. Those who might have information regarding the incident are being urged to contact the nearest police station.
