Prevent gender based violence

The Zero Tolerance initiative was a five-year program launched in April 2016 by the Trump administration to prosecute those who violate federal law with regard to sexual assaulter and rapist in the juvenile justice system as adults. This initiative increased Prisoner Detention Facilities (PDFs) in federal prisons and sharply expanded the use of private prisons at the local level, including in Texas, over the past five years.

Promoting gender equality and stopping gender-based violence are common issues presented in schools across the country. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with 18 other agencies, has developed a set of evidence-based recommendations to improve gender-based violence prevention and response programming in schools.

Women and girls who are victims of gender-based violence need to be able to be safe and rely on their support networks to get the help they need. It is crucial that they know where to go for further support, and that they can trust that support system to provide the information and resources that they need to care for themselves and their children as they navigate crises and trauma.
