OPINION| We all knew that the Helen Suzman Foundation will go to court for what happened last week

The Helen Suzman Foundation is threatening to go to court to force the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to hold new interviews for the chief justice post, the foundation has called the interview process, which was held last week, an 'abomination. There was question asked to Justice Mandisa Maya as to whether South Africa was ready for a woman Chief Justice which was and nobody cried foul about it. Now that Justice Mandisa Maya is a recommended candidate, the Helen Suzman Foundation is complaining and threatening to take the issue to court. On what basis will the Helen Suzman Foundation be opposing the recommendations in court, are there any prescribed questions that should have been asked by the JSC?The truth of the matter is that everyone had a preferred candidate and that includes the Helen Suzman’s foundation, their candidate was not preferred and they are very bitter, and now they want to reverse the entire process through the courts? The JSC simply make recommendations and only the president has powers to appoint the next CJ, and they should desist from preempting the president’ decision, the president is not obligated to go with the JSC’ decision
