Fifth Wave Covid-19—This is What Experts Predict About South Africa Current Wave

As South Africa battles the fifth wave of Coronavirus, many people are beginning to go back to have their Booster shots. However, some people are still doubting this fifth wave, saying that they are in winter, so it's expected that some people will have cold. However, Wall Street Journal wrote extensively about this recent Covid-19 wave in South Africa, saying that, “South Africa is in the midst of its fifth wave of Covid-19, driven by two variants related to the Omicron strain. Life continues as normal”. Dean MacPherson of the opposition party, the Democratic Alliance made a satirical statement on Twitter two days ago, saying “Two weeks ago, the health minister held a press conference to tell us they needed another week to work out if we are in the “fifth wave”. What happened?”? However, experts have actually stated that the fifth wave is currently on as the number of daily infections have risen above the benchmark.

Wall street journal noted that, “The country, which was at the forefront of that first Omicron wave that took hold in November last year, is a model for living with the virus in the long term. For the average South African, the virus has receded into a humdrum fact of daily life. Behind the scenes, dozens of scientists closely track its every move”. The government of the republic of South Africa is trying to encourage people to go for a Booster Shot to protect themselves and their families, saying that the vaccine saves lives. However, some people are still making mockery of the vaccine, numerous people has still not been vaccinated despite this update about the fifth wave. A popular media group IOL revealed few days ago that, “Western Cape breaches 10 000 active Covid-19 cases amid anticipated fifth wave”. Furthermore, it reported that The province recorded 10 780 active cases, 690 315 confirmed cases, with 657 561 recoveries as at 1pm on Tuesday.
