A WORLD-FAMOUS DOCTOR has revealed what it's like to die, describing the process as "peaceful" and "pleasant."
Dr Sam Parnia, director of critical care and resuscitation research at New York University's Langone School of Medicine in New York City, described death as "extremely comfortable." And while the doctor acknowledges that people who have had a near-death experience occasionally describe encounters with deceased relatives, he maintains that the sensation is not indicative of the afterlife. In terms of the physical process, Dr Parnia stated during a recent Oz Talk: "Death is a process; it is not a binary event."
"The end result is a decrease in the amount of oxygen that enters the brain as we approach death, which causes our brain circuits to shut down and we become unconscious to the outside world," he continued.
When the heart stops, all life processes cease to function because there is no blood flow to the brain, kidneys, or liver, and we become lifeless and motionless; this is the time at which doctors declare us dead."
However, the doctor, who has published numerous studies and books on the subject of death, asserted that there is a psychological process that leaves survivors of near-death experiences yearning for death once more.
Dr Parnia, who has rescued thousands of patients from the brink of death.
Stated: "For the vast majority of people, dying is not an unpleasant experience. For those of us who die naturally, even if we are in pain prior to death, the process of dying becomes extremely comfortable, blissful, and peaceful. People describe the sensation of being drawn to a bright, warm, welcoming light.
They describe an encounter with their deceased relatives, as if they have come to greet them. They frequently state that they did not wish to return (to life); in many cases, it is so comfortable and acts as a magnet that they do not wish to return. Numerous people describe a sense of disconnection from themselves as they watch doctors and nurses work on them.
"They are capable of hearing and recording everything that goes on around them."
Several of them describe an experience in which they review everything they've done."
