When it comes to excellence, age is certainly no barrier. Dr Thakgalo Thibela has become a social media sensation after being named one of the country's youngest doctors.

Thibela is already supporting patients in their recuperation while most of her peers are still figuring out their professional prospects. Her tale has encouraged people of all ages to believe in themselves and their aspirations.

1. Dr Thakgalo Thibela, a 21-year-old from Violet Bank in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

2. She began Grade R in 2004 when she was six years old. Due to her academic success, she was promoted from Grade 6 to Grade 8.

3. A week into Grade 9, Dr Thibela was advanced to Grade 10 at Lehlasedi High School, also in Shatale.

4. She graduated with honors in mathematics, physical science, life orientation, agricultural science, history, life orientation, and Pedi home language at the age of 15. In English as a second language, she received a B.

5. Her academic achievements won her the Golden Key International membership, which honors students who succeed academically at universities around the world.

6. Thibela was awarded a bursary from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), a corporation that worked with Lehlasedi High School to fund the top learner every year, after she received seven distinctions in her matric year.

7. She enrolled in Wits University's Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program at the age of 16 and received a stipend to help her pay for her studies.

8. Thibela had to deal with bullies and was teased because she couldn't pronounce certain English words. Her classmates teased her about her accent. She persevered, however, thanks to her hard work and determination.

9. This year, she began her medical internship at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg. Despite the fact that she is the youngest doctor on staff, people have no reservations about having her care them.

10. Thibela is focused on achieving even higher ambitions, with the ultimate objective of becoming a neurosurgeon. You've got this, girl!
