As HIV is becoming more of a serious illness and PLWHA live longer lives, confidentiality of HIV status is urged as a means of reducing sexual risk behavior and virus transmission, minimizing HIV feelings of shame, and increasing the availability of services and encouragement.

The radio DJ and social media influencer has revealed that she is HIV positive. She is the grateful mother of three children.


During the discussion, she stated, 'The HIV in my bloodstream is having a musical performance.' – Criselda Kananda on the use of ARVs in the face of Covid-19.

Criselda has not used ARVs, informing the Sunday Times that her immune response is powerful sufficiently. 

"I am HIV-positive, and I have never taken ARVs in all the years I have identified my status."

There has been speculation making the rounds for quite some time now that Leleti Khumalo contracted the virus while she was still married to Mbongeni Ngema.

Leleti Khumalo reportedly estranged Mbongeni after nearly 20 years of being married because she was unhappy. 

People seemed to think, and they were left with the impression that she may have contracted the disease from her ex-husband, Mbongeni. 

This led to speculation that Ngema was also HIV positive.

On World Aids Day in 2011, the actress revealed her HIV status on Kaya FM. Unfortunately, the actress died in 2014 after discontinuing her ARV treatment.

Thabang Sefatsa, a former Roses FC and Tigers FC player, is another Mzanzi celebrity who has spoken out about his HIV status. 

He disclosed that he had to quit as a grom professional footballer after testing positive for HIV.
