The roll out of the vaccine from Johnson and Johnson has commenced across the province. The first person to receive the vaccine was the president of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa. The Limpopo MEC of health Doctor Phophi Ramathuba was vaccinated at Mankweng hospital today.
Doctor Phophi Ramathuba received the shot of COVID-19 Johnson and Johnson Vaccine at Mankweng Hospital outside Polokwane as part of the campaign for the massive roll out of healthcare workers vaccination.
Sister Mmautla from Mankweng hospital is the one who admistered the covid 19 vaccine while Premier Stanley Mathabatha and HOD Doctor Thokozani Mhlongo watched.
Source: The vaccination campaign will now go to other health care workers across the province. The first in line to receive the vaccine will be nurses and doctors in the province.
They will then be followed by the elderly as they are the most vulnerable group. Coronavirus has been a huge problem in our lives since last year with the second wave that is hitting South Africa hard and has left many people being infected and many have lost their lives.
With the arrival of the vaccine South Africa is hoping to achieve herd immunity by the end of this year. The Johnson and Johnson vaccines came after the first one that was from India failed to protect people against the new variant that was first discovered in South Africa last this year.
Civid 19 is still causing problems for many people. Let us continue remembering to wash our hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, Sanitise our hands as often as you can and always keeps social distancing of about 1,5 meters.
