According to People, she was also diagnosed with Grave’s disease—an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid—and made diet and exercise changes to help control that.

Another actress who decided to go for bariatric surgery, Gabourey Sidibe, 37, said her decision to get the surgery came down to her diabetes diagnosis and struggles with years of trying to lose weight. “I’m glad that I finally realized that the surgery wasn’t the easy way out,” she told People. “I wasn’t cheating by getting it done. I wouldn’t have been able to lose as much as I’ve lost without it.”
