Missy Elliott

The singer-rapper, 49, posted on Instagramcrediting two simple diet tweaks for helping her lose weight: no more soda or juice (just water!) and cutting back on carbs, namely bread. According to People, she was also diagnosed with Grave’s disease—an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid—and made diet and exercise changes to help control that.

Khloe Kardashian

This Kardashian sister isn’t afraid to share how hard she pushes it in the gym—but that love of fitness only developed in the past few years. “If you were to ask me five years ago if I ever saw myself being completely in love with fitness and health, that I would be an inspiration to many others, that I would be the push that others needed to find their way—I would’ve laughed in your face,” she wrote on Instagram. “Me? The chubby one? No way! But now I can’t see myself ever stopping!” That’s one of the reasons (along with breastfeeding, and a high-protein, low-carb diet) she said she lost more than 30 pounds after having baby True in April 2018, according to People.

Janet Jackson

Going on tour takes a certain level of fitness—and Janet makes it look easy, even at 54. Her trainer, Paula Sybliss revealed to E! Newsthat they started prepping for life on the road (with a goal to shape up) just six weeks after Janet gave birth to daughter Eissa in January 2017. Thanks to weight training (not to mention hours spent dancing on stage), Jackson lost 70 pounds.

Jennifer Hudson

Former American Idol contestant, singer, and actor, Hudson has stunned on the red carpet and across award shows for years. She lost 80 pounds post-Idol and has maintained the weight loss. According to Good Housekeeping, she pays close attention to what she puts in her body, with a focus on portion control.

Gabourey Sedibe

Another actress who decided to go for bariatric surgery, Gabourey Sidibe, 37, said her decision to get the surgery came down to her diabetes diagnosis and struggles with years of trying to lose weight. “I’m glad that I finally realized that the surgery wasn’t the easy way out,” she told People. “I wasn’t cheating by getting it done. I wouldn’t have been able to lose as much as I’ve lost without it.”
