South Africa has been immensely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic over the past two years. However, there has been a slight improvement recently which has saw less numbers of people being infected by the deadly virus. After weathering all sorts of variants and waves, Mzansi have been study the Coronavirus closely as they’re trying to figure out ways to deal with it fully. Yesterday Mzansi recorded 3 960 new cases and an additional of 139 deaths that took the number to 93 846.
Now, the Ecomic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has been keep an eye on the Covid-19 statistics and has called for the government to end certain rules and regulations associated with the virus. As he stated that the government should call off the wearing of face masks and end the whole lockdown as it doesn't serve it's main purpose anymore. Malema has stated that South African citizens can take full responsibility of their health and it's not entirely up to the government. “Do away with the mask, open the country and the economy and we will take responsibility for our own lives,” he said to loud cheers from a crowd that included supporters of the various football clubs and artists in Pretoria.
Furthermore, the former ANC Youth League leader stated that the government should embark of encouraging the people about the vaccine and not make it compulsory to take the jab. Also, the government should allow fans back at stadium, amongst other things. "All of us, we are encouraged to vaccinate, but no-one is going to force anyone to vaccinate. We must vaccinate on our own — even at the stadium, we don’t require anyone who is vaccinated or not vaccinated," said Malema addressing a crowd during the protest in Pretoria about opening the stadiums.
The outspoken politician said that as leaders they cannot follow the dectatorship mentality. All they need to do is provide awareness to the citizens about the Coronavirus and vaccine. However, they force anyone into doing anything they don't want. “Let those who want to go to the stadium go to the stadium. We believe in science, we believe that vaccines are the solution to the problem, but don’t force people to vaccinate," said Malema speaking to protestors in Pretoria.
